OpenFront Updates Hub
v33 patch notes, Doomsday Clock, Ranked 2v2, and Steam Early Access on 17 September 2026.
OpenFront patches in public. The browser client at openfront.io and the Steam client share the same design language: land share, gold, nukes, and alliances. This hub is the index for what changed and what the Steam client adds. Two child pages carry the weight:
- v33 patch notes — Doomsday Clock land-share waves, Ranked 2v2, 22 maps, impassable terrain, interceptable MIRV warheads, warship veterancy, usernames. Dated 31 July 2026, with later 0.33.x fixes.
- Steam Early Access — Steam Early Access starts 17 September 2026. Editions, wishlist, cross-play, platforms. The browser stays free.
Read v33 if you last played before late July 2026. Read Steam if you are deciding between a wishlist and the free web client. Read both if you want to know whether a mechanic is a patch or a store SKU.
How to use patch notes on this wiki
We do not dump every GitHub commit. We keep the changes that alter a click:
- Win still targets ~80% non-fallout land. FFA Overtime, when enabled, waits until minute 30 then lowers the bar. Play guides: Overtime, Trains, Ranked.
- Troop growth still peaks near 42% of cap. Cities still add 250k cap per level.
- v33 does change MIRV defense (warheads fly and SAMs can intercept), map routing (impassable tiles), and late FFA tempo (Doomsday Clock is a rising land-share test, not a shrinking circle).
- Steam does not change those combat formulas. It changes how you install, play offline, and show a verified name.
If a number you need is a price, leave this hub and open gold costs. If it is a building rank, open building tiers. If it is a map family, open map archetypes.
v33 in one paragraph
On 31 July 2026 the project shipped v0.33.0: Doomsday Clock with a 10-minute grace then FFA waves at 2 / 4 / 7 / 11 / 17 / 25 / 35% land share; Ranked 2v2 with its own ladder, clanmate preference, and one-minute spawn immunity; 22 maps including Sol, Russia, United States, France, Germany, China, Vietnam, Scandinavia, and Las Vegas Strip; impassable terrain; account usernames and a verified badge; MIRV warheads as interceptable nukes; warship veterancy; large performance cuts on big maps. The long form, including later 0.33.x notes such as Overtime defaulting on in public FFA, is v33.
Steam in one paragraph
Steam Early Access date is 17 September 2026. Developer and publisher: OpenFront Inc, with Evan Pellegrini listed. Platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Steam Deck. Offline play, preloaded assets, cross-play with the browser on the same account. OpenFront edition $4.99 (one month of Warlord, cosmetics, verified name). OpenFront Masters $9.99 (one month of Sovereign, plus the base extras). The web client stays free; it is not a demo and it is not going away. Wishlist and SKU detail: Steam Early Access. Store-only community notes also sit on Steam store links.
What we will add next on this hub
When a later major version lands, it gets its own child page and a link from this index. Until then, do not look for a v34 notes page here. Preview rumors do not belong on a facts-checked wiki. If you need social proof or patch conversations, use Discord and community and the GitHub repo (AGPL-3.0).
Start with v33 for the rules that already changed your public queue, then Steam Early Access for the 17 September 2026 client. This index exists so those two stories do not get mashed into one vague “patch and store” paragraph.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common OpenFront questions.
When was v33?
v0.33.0 is dated 31 July 2026. Later 0.33.x builds (through at least 0.33.14) fix UI, replays, and public FFA Overtime defaults without replacing the headline systems. Full breakdown: v33.
When is Steam Early Access?
Steam Early Access starts 17 September 2026. The browser client stays free. Editions and platforms: Steam Early Access.
Did v33 add a battle-royale circle?
No. Doomsday Clock is a rising required land-share after a 10-minute grace period. Calling it a circle will make you hold a pretty corner and lose. See v33.
Does the Steam client use different combat math?
No. Cross-play uses the same matches. Steam adds install, offline play, cosmetics, and verified-name perks. Combat prices stay on gold costs.
Where do I discuss a patch?
Official Discord and GitHub issues, linked from Discord and community. This hub is the written index, not a live changelog bot.
